A total of 2,947 poker players turned out on Day 1a in the first of two flights of the Event #21: $1500 Monster Stack No-Limit Hold 'em at the 2022 World Series of Poker in its new home at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas.

The massive field contributed nearly $4,000,000 to the prize pool and is expected to be even bigger for the second flight on Saturday.

After 11 one-hour levels of play, 898 players were able to bag for Sunday's Day 2. Frank Lagodich is the documented chip leader with a last-reported stack of 635,000 chips. Other players in the running are Italian pro Mustapha Kanit with 550,500, Paul Siegel (491,500) Andrew Dean (485,000), and Tim Reilly (481,000).

Notably, Vanessa Kade also had a massive chip stack for what seemed like the entire 11 hours of play and was well over a half-million chips in the middle levels and will take plenty of momentum into Day 2 with 470,500 chips in her bag.

Four-time WSOP bracelet winner Michael Gathy also tore it up all day and was last documented with 380,000. We will provide what he bagged as soon as we have that information.

Johnnie Moreno aka Johnnie Vibes registered super late, waiting until Level 9 and starting with just 33 big blinds, but that did not stop him from bagging an incredible 367,500 chips.

2007 WSOP Main Event Champion Jerry Yang is also hanging around, last recorded with an impressive 317,000 chips.

2019 WSOP online bracelet winner Shawn Buchanan also had himself a day, last known to be on 313,000.

However, not everyone had a fun time. Five-time WSOP bracelet winner Michael Mizrachi, two-time bracelet winner Kevin MacPhee, Women's Hall of Famer JJ Liu, popular vlogger Cedrric Trevino aka Poker Traveler, and bracelet winner Jason Wheeler all failed to make Day 2.

Day 1b kicks off at 10:00 a.m. local time on Saturday, where they will once again play 11 60-minute levels with breaks every two hours. The surviving players will come back for Day 2 on Sunday, also at 10:00 a.m. and a winner is set to be decided on Day 4 on Tuesday.

Johnnie Moreno
Johnnie Moreno

On a {2-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{10-Spades} flop with 20,000 in the pot, Johnnie Moreno, in early position, put out a bet of 15,000 and was called by the big blind.

The {2-Clubs} came on the turn and both players checked.

On the {7-Clubs} river, Moreno's opponent bet 25,500 and Moreno instantly called and showed {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, beating his opponent's {7-Hearts}{6-Clubs}.

Mizrachi Setup Up And Bust Before The End

• Nivo 11: 1,000-2,500, 2,500 ante

John-Paul Cao raised from early position, and Michael Mizrachi called from the button.

On a {a-Spades}{6-Spades}{10-Hearts} flop, Cao bet 12,000 and Mizrachi raised to 28,000. Cao called to see a {q-Hearts} on the turn.
Cao checked, Mizrachi bet 40,000, and Cao committed the rest of his chips. Mizrachi called and was covered and at risk.

Michael Mizrachi: {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
John-Paul Cao: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

The river came the {k-Hearts} but it did not change anything. Cao's two-pair was better than Mizrachi two-pair, and the latter was eliminated.

Kanit Goes Flush Over Flush to Double Up and Become Big Stack

• Nivo 11: 1,000-2,500, 2,500 ante
Mustapha Kanit
Mustapha Kanit

Mustapha Kanit called from the big blind following a raise from a player early position, a call from middle position, and a call in the cutoff.

On the {9-Spades}{6-Spades}{4-Spades} flop, the original raiser made a continuation bet to 12,000 and Kanit check-raised it 38,000, after the two other players folded. The early position player called.

The two players went heads up to an {8-Hearts} turn and Kanit bet 38,000. The opponent called again.

The river came the {5-Diamonds} and the Italian announced that he was all-in for 90,000. He was snap-called by his opponent.

Mustapha Kanit: {q-Spades}{2-Spades}
Opponent: {10-Spades}{8-Spades}

Kanit flush-over-flushed his opponent, received the full double-up, and is now one of the biggest stacks in the tournament.
