Gargano Gains Momentum, Takes Match

Anthony Gargano
Anthony Gargano

Coming in to today's match John Hennigan possessed a 7-1 chip advantage against his opponent Anthony Gargano. However after two double ups Gargano possessed the chip lead.

With stacks almost even, but Gargano with a slight lead we witnessed Hennigan raise a bet from Gargano to 22,000 from the big blind preflop. Gargano then three-bet putting Hennigan all in. Hennigan made the call and cards were tabled

Gargano: {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
Hennigan: {Q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

With a {K-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades} board unleashed on the felt Hennigan was eliminated as he couldn't compete with his opponent's pair of kings. Gargano now moves on to the next round with 411,500 chips.

Bracketology

• Nivo 17: 2,000-4,000, 500 ante

Tournament Director Jack Effel just entered our tournament area in a bit of a rush.

"We're going to have to have you make a couple corrections on the bracket," was all he said as he scurried by. There appears to have been some mistake with the bracket. The first matches were all drawn correctly, but two sets of matches were placed in the wrong location in the bracket. There is a bit of flip-flopping going on right now, and we'll post the corrected bracket as soon as it's sorted out.

Rettenmaier Riding a Heater; Advances

Marvin Rettenmaier
Marvin Rettenmaier

As Marvin Rettenmaier tells it, Igor Yaroshevskyy had been three-betting a large percentage of his open-raises. Rettenmaier finally had enough of that and four-bet shoved with the {Q-Hearts} {9-Spades}. Yaroshevskyy called it off with {K-Spades} {J-Clubs}, and he was a small favorite to stay alive.

But Rettenmaier runs pretty good. A nine dropped on the flop, and Yaroshevskyy could not catch up. He's out, and Rettenmaier is through.

O'Donnell on His Way to Sixteen

Ryan O'Donnell
Ryan O'Donnell

We don't know exactly how the action went preflop, but we do know Michael Ferrell was all in and at risk against Ryan O'Donnell. Holding {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} O'Donnell was basically in a race situation as his opponent, Ferrell possessed {A-Clubs}{j-Clubs}.

A {4-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} looked to be just what O'Donnell needed to help deliver the knock out. a {A-Diamonds} turn though caused Ferrell to take a strong lead heading to the turn.

A {5-Spades} miracle river allowed for O'Donnell to retake the lead, and the match as his full house fives over twos was more than enough to eliminate Ferrell.

Lewis KOs Rast

Toby Lewis
Toby Lewis

Brian Rast was trailing in chips, and he stuck his remainder in with {Q-Clubs} {J-Clubs} on the turn of a {10-Spades} {Q-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} board. He was in a bad spot, though, as Toby Lewis and his {10-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} had Rast drawing dead to the gutterball.

The river {5-Clubs} wasn't a king or nine, and Rast will have to wait for his second bracelet. It's Toby Lewis who's on to the Round of 16. Somewhere, the beloved "Brit Rail" has taken their shoes off. We hope they make an appearance here the the Amazon Room later this afternoon.

Froehlich Out, Cazals In

Aubin Cazals
Aubin Cazals

With a {k-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop in the middle of the felt we found Eric Froehlich get all in and at risk against Aubin Cazals. Froehlich's {9-Hearts}{7-Clubs} was going to need some help as Cazal's {A-Clubs}{k-Spades} was ahead.

A {6-Diamonds} turn and a {j-Diamonds} river sent EFro packing. Aubin Cazals now sits with 404,000.

Parker Overcomes a Deficit to Advance

Brock Parker
Brock Parker

Brock Parker began his match with Nicolas Levi at a 2.5:1 chip disadvantage. It took him just about a half hour to overcome that and advance.

The key hand played out just moments before the end of the match as a raising war broke out on a {4-Spades} {3-Clubs} {2-Clubs} flop. After Levi made his bet, Parker check-raised to 21,000. Levi clicked it back to 39,000, Parker shoved, and Levi called with his barely covering stack. The Frenchman was drawing dead to runner-runner.

Showdown
Paker: {5-Diamonds} {6-Spades}
Levi: {A-Diamonds} {2-Hearts}

Parker had flopped the joint, but Levi turned a sweat as the {2-Spades} turn gave him outs with one to come. The river was the blank {Q-Hearts}, though, and the pot that pushed to Parker contained almost all the chips on the table.

Just a moment later, the match was over, and Parker is on to the Sweet 16.

Cheong On to the Sweet 16

Joseph Cheong
Joseph Cheong

Nabih Zaczac shoved the rest of his short stack into the middle with {K-Diamonds} {10-Spades}, and Joseph Cheong snapped him off with the superior {A-Hearts} {9-Clubs}.

The {5-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {9-Spades} flop added another four outs for Zaczac, but that's as close as he'd get. The turn {4-Diamonds} and river {A-Clubs} completed the board. Unable to get over the hump, Zaczac is out.

Joseph Cheong has secured his spot in the Round of 16.
