Event 6: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Mixed-Max

Daniel Buzgon Eliminated in 10th Place ($24,390)

Daniel Buzgon had been worked down under 100,000 when he open-shoved from the button. Fabrizio Baldassari had good enough timing to pick up a snap-calling hand, {A-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}. That put Buzgon and his {Q-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} in a bad spot, five cards from elimination.

The board ran out {4-Spades} {K-Clubs} {K-Spades} {8-Hearts} {8-Clubs}, and Buzgon couldn't get there. He's out in this Sweet 16, and it's Fabrizio Baldassari who's advancing to the Round of 8.

Adam Geyer raised to 12,000 from the button, then called a three-bet to 27,000 from Anthony Gargano. Off they went to the flop.

It came {Q-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {K-Spades}, and Geyer called another 32,000. Gargano kept the heat on with 68,000 more on the {4-Spades} turn, and now Geyer wasn't so sure. He surrendered, and the match is essentially even once again.

Matthew DeLuca - 11th place

With around 100,000 in the pot we found Matthew DeLuca betting 200,000 on a {2-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{k-Spades} board. His opponent Marvin Rettenmaier was visible upset by this bet and went into the tank in order to figure out if he had the best of it. Rettenmaier even proclaimed "I'm really sorry, I might be slow rolling you". With a few more moments of contemplation Rettenmaier made the call and DeLuca quickly mucked. Rettenmaier showed {Q-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} for three of a kind twos, and took in a monster pot.

A couple of hands later we found DeLuca move all in and get called by Rettenmaier.

Rettenmaier: {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}
DeLuca: {3-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

DeLuca was pretty far behind, but you never know what can happen. With a {q-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop DeLuca managed to grab hold of a pair of eights, but was still behind. With a {2-Clubs} on the turn DeLuca started walking away defeated. A river {k-Spades} proved Deluca right as he was subsequently eliminated from the tournament.

Geyer Takes the Lead

Adam Geyer raised to 12,000 from the button, and Anthony Gargano defended.

The flop brought them {5-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {8-Clubs}, and Gargano led out into the pot with 16,000. Geyer bumped it up to 43,000, but Gargano responded with an all-in shove with his covering stack. Geyer had 189,500 chips total, and he made the call for his tournament life. He was well in front with his {J-Spades} {J-Diamonds}, but Gargano and his {10-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} were drawing live for the knockout.

The turn {8-Hearts} was a blank, and the river {10-Clubs} wasn't enough to get Gargano over the hump. He's dropped a big chunk of his stack, giving up the chip lead in the process.

Gargano Climbs

With a {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} board in the middle we found Adam Geyer betting out 22,000. This bet was quickly raised to 46,000 by Anthony Gargano. When action fell back on Geyer he opted to three-bet and make it 97,000. After a few minutes of contemplation a call was made by Gargano.

With the {9-Clubs} on the river Geyer took his time before ultimately checking, which led to a 150,000 bet from Gargano. Geyer didn't believe his cards were best and he folded.
