Andrew Brown enters the final day of Event 39 with the chip lead.
Andrew Brown enters the final day of Event 39 with the chip lead.

Day 2 of Event 39: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha began with 88 players looking to make the money, and then advance to Day 3. After ten hours of grueling poker, only thirteen players remain, and the chip leader is Andrew Brown with 1,774,000 chips. Brown’s stack began to surge before the dinner break, and after the bubble burst, he rocketed to the top of the counts. During the last few levels, he busted Keith Lehr, Konstantin Bucherl, Alexander Kravchenko, and David Callaghan.

Sammy Farha and Benjamin Sage are the only other players with more than a million chips. Here’s how the entire field looks:

Andrew Brown1,774,000
Sammy Farha1,129,000
Benjamin Sage1,013,000
Jan-Peter Jachtmann895,000
Steven Silverman668,000
Joe Kushner571,000
Andy Seth569,000
Adam Kornuth568,000
Nikolai Yakovenko528,000
Jason Mercier408,000
Ville Wahlbeck247,000
Micah Smith215,000
John Kabbaj210,000

There were plenty of notables who returned for Day 2 only to miss the money. The list includes George Lind III, John Racener, Ben Grundy, Noah Schwartz, Joe Cada, Brett Richey, Chris DeMaci, and our eventual bubble boy; Huck Seed. Seed was very short with 37 players remaining, and on the fourteenth hand of hand-for-hand play, he was all in with {a-Spades}{7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{5-Hearts}. Aussie Matthew Kirk had him at risk with {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}, and the board ran out {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{k-Spades}, eliminating Seed one spot shy of $16,801.

During the last level of play, when we redrew to two tables, Jason Mercier was at the bottom of the counts. And, when he got his money in the middle, he was well behind Josh Tieman and Farha. Mercier received running hearts however, tripling him to over twenty big-blinds. An orbit or two later, he was all in again against Seth holding just top pair. Mercier was able to fade all of Seth’s outs, and doubled to nearly 40 big blinds. He finished the day with 408,000, and is looking to capture his third career WSOP bracelet – all of which have come in Pot-Limit Omaha.

Event 39 will resume tomorrow at 1 p.m. local time. Brown, Wahlbeck, and Kabbaj will be looking for their second career WSOP bracelet, Mercier his third, and Farha his fourth. We look forward to an exciting finish, and we hope you join us for all of your exclusive up-to-the-minute updates!

• Nivo 20: 6,000-12,000, 0 ante

The players are currently bagging their chips - we'll have official chip counts for all the players shortly.

More for Mercier

Jason Mercier limped in from under the gun, Andy Seth potted to 54,000 on his direct left, and the action folded back to Mercier, who called.

The flop came down {10-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{5-Spades}, and Mercier potted, making it 126,000. Seth raised, putting Mercier all in, and Mercier called.

Mercier's pair of tens held as the turn and river came {3-Diamonds}, {9-Diamonds}, respectively, doubling him to over 400,000 chips.

Four More Hands

• Nivo 20: 6,000-12,000, 0 ante

The tournament clock is frozen at "10:00," and the tournament staff drew a {4-} from the deck. That means we'll play four more hands, then bag and tag for the evening.

Keith Lehr Eliminated in 15th Place ($33,794)

Keith Lehr - 15th Place
Keith Lehr - 15th Place

Keith Lehr and Andrew Brown were heads up on a flop of {9-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{9-Spades}. Lehr led for 60,000, and Brown called.

The turn was the {5-Diamonds}, and Lehr slowed down, checking to Brown who fired 85,000. Lehr called.

The river was a third diamond - the {3-Diamonds} - and Lehr moved all in. Brown called, and Lehr showed two aces. Brown tabled {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}{q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} for a flopped full house however, and Lehr was eliminated.
