Day 1 Concludes; Ressler Leads

[user68268] • Nivo 8: 300-600, 0 ante

Day 1 of Event 26: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha has concluded and it was a fun day on the felt. As expected, there was plenty of action in this event as the field was cut from 589 down to 138. Tomorrow's Day 2 will see the money bubble burst en route to setting the final table.

Leading the way after Day 1 was Joseph Ressler with 122,100 in chips. Other notable names bagging up heaps include Galen Kester (111,000), Matt Perrins (85,600) and Thomas Chambers (80,100). They'll all be bunched at the top of the counts, but we can't forget about many of the players below them on the leaderboard. Also returning for Wednesday's Day 2 will be Scott Clements, Chance Kornuth, John Racener, Tex Barch, Nacho Barbero and Robert Williamson III.

Defending champion Sam Stein is still in contention to defend his title and successfully bagged up 48,300 in chips. Also still alive, but barely, is Phil Ivey. He didn't play a single hand in this tournament today and was blinded off all day long. His stack of 700 will return tomorrow for Day 2.

Of those to fall short of advancing were Daniel Negreanu, Lex Veldhuis, Josh Arieh, Huck Seed, David Williams, Phil Hellmuth and Jason Mercier. Mercier was eliminated by Clements after getting the money in on the {10-Spades}{9-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop with the {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades}. His overpair and flush draw whiffed against the {A-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{7-Spades} for Clements after a turn {2-Diamonds} and river {10-Diamonds}.

On Wednesday, the cards will be in the air for Day 2 at 2:00 PM. PokerNews will be back in action for all of the coverage, so be sure to join us then. You can also find plenty of more coverage from the 2012 World Series of Poker on our Live Reporting Pages. Until then, thanks for following along and goodnight from Las Vegas!

1996 WSOP Main Event Champ Falls

After getting knocked down to 3,450 in chips recently, Huck Seed's tournament has ended.

Seed attempted to battle back and put in a raise to 2,100 from under the gun. Whether or not he had a good hand, we don't know, but we do know that everyone folded and Seed picked up the blinds for 900. That brought him to 4,350, but he would go out two hands later.

A player limped in from early position when it was Seed's big blind and action folded to the small blind, who happened to be the same player that just doubled through Seed. He completed the bet and then Seed checked his option in the big blind.

The flop rolled out {J-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{3-Hearts} and action checked around to see the {7-Diamonds} land on the turn. The small blind and Seed checked to the limper. He bet 1,800 and the small blind folded. Seed check-raised all in for 3,750. His opponent took some time while giving a speech and then called. He even said that he would like to trade hands with Seed. Here's what the hands were.

Seed: {K-Spades}{J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{5-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{2-Hearts}

Despite wanting to trade hands with Seed, the player actually held the best of it with a set of sevens. Seed had top two pair. The river completed the board with the {Q-Spades} and Seed was eliminated.
