Event #8: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em

Flack's Nut Flush Puts Him Among Chip Leaders

• Nivo 8: 200-400, 50 ante

On a board reading {Q-Spades}{2-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{7-Spades}, Layne Flack fired a 5,500 bet into a roughly 10,000 pot. Flack's opponent tanked for a while and eventually made the call. Flack triumphantly tabled the {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for the stone-cold nuts. His opponent mucked without showing.

Flack is currently sitting right around 40,000.

Tilly's Rockets Crash and Burn

• Nivo 8: 200-400, 50 ante

We missed the action but according to a tablemate, Jennifer Tilly has been eliminated in the worst way a poker player can imagine, holding {A-}{A-} against the {6-}{7-} of her opponent.

Our source informed us that the six-seven was indeed suited, so the hand was slightly more justified, but Tilly would most likely disagree. Apparently the worse hand materialized into the nut straight on the turn and Tilly was bounced from today's proceedings.

Unfortunately for Tilly, this was not even her worst bad beat of day, as we overheard the actress turned poker pro telling a friend that an autograph seeker confused her with Tiffany Michelle in the hallway during the dinner break. Apparently the "fan" was disappointed when she scrawled her name and asked, "weren't you the one from Amazing Race?"

Slepe stave:

Chiu Having Fun

• Nivo 7: 100-200, 25 ante
David Chiu
David Chiu

While many players tend to be very straight-faced and serious when they play poker, it's nice to see someone having a bit of fun.

We recently caught a hand where David Chiu and two other players saw a flop of {k-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. Chiu was first to act and bet 1,825. Both the other players folded fairly quickly and Chiu flipped over his {9-Spades}{4-Spades} and was nearly giggling about it.

Who doesn't love a good bluff now and then? Chiu was up to around 17,000 after the hand.

Fishman's Two Pair Busts Two Players

• Nivo 7: 100-200, 25 ante

In a three-way pot in which two players found their tournament lives on the line, Craig Fishman tabled the {A-Spades}{K-Hearts} and found himself in great shape against the {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades} and {10-Spades}{4-Spades} of his opponents.

The player holding the worst hand was optimistic upon seeing the similar high-card hands held by the others, stating "you guys are toast, I got the ten-four."

The flop rolled out {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and Fishman's big slick remained in the lead. A {7-Hearts} on the turn officially eliminated the previously hopeful player holding ten-high, and we were off to the river with Fishman needing to dodge a queen to win the pot.

River: {A-Diamonds}

And with that, Fishman's two pair were good and he dragged a very large pot of nearly 18,000 chips his way.

Scott Scares Away the Limpers

OHairDJ • Nivo 7: 100-200, 25 ante

Kara Scott has been chipping up nicely since dinner break.

In a recent hand, Men Nguyen limped for 300 from early position, as did another player to his left. Not having it, Scott raised to 1,350 from the button. The blinds, Nguyen and the other player quickly folded.

Scott is currently sitting with 23,000

Pang's Pair Drops a Dodger

• Nivo 7: 100-200, 25 ante

We arrived to see the board reading {2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and Matthew Pang, wearing a Toronto Blue Jays baseball cap, tabling his {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}. His opponent was donning an L.A. Dodgers cap and could not produce a hand capable of beating Pang's cowboys. A huge pot of over 27,000 chips was shipped Pang's way, crippling his opponent in this battle between poker playing baseball fans.

Medic Counterfeits Dueces to Stay Alive

• Nivo 7: 100-200, 25 ante

We arrived at the table to see two players contemplating action on a flop reading {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}, with Nenad Medic sitting on the sideline, having already committed his stack in preflop.

The big blind checked his option before the player on the button put in a significant raise to have his opponent fold.

Nenad Medic: {K-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
Opponent: {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}

Medic received a great counterfeit card with the {J-Hearts} coming on the turn, and when the river produced a {7-Diamonds} the side pot of 3800 was his.

"I Like This Hand"

• Nivo 7: 100-200, 25 ante

A player in early position raised to 700 and both Men "The Master" Nguyen and the hijack called. The player in the cutoff re-raised all in to 2,750, the initial raiser folded, and Nguyen asked "How much?" before deciding to call. The hijack folded leaving Nguyen and the cutoff heads up.

Cutoff: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Nguyen: {k-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

"I like this hand," Nguyen stated to the table. The board ran out {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}{2-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and the other player doubled up while Nguyen's stack dipped to 19,000.

Oznake: Men Nguyen

Collins Chips Up

• Nivo 7: 100-200, 25 ante

With the board already showing {j-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{7-Spades}{a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} Phil Collins (the poker player, not the singer) and another player were already all in. The all-in player held the {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds} but couldn't best Collins' {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}. The other player was sent packing while Collins stack increased to 14,200.
