Day 1 of the €2,200 Eureka High Roller has reached it's conclusion with the field of 1,149 entries being reduced to just 181 players.

Today's action saw 16 levels of 40-minutes play out, and when all was said and done, Bulgaria's Yulian Bogdanov (604,000) ended the day atop of the chip counts.

Narrowly behind him is WSOP bracelet winner Carl Shaw (600,000) and sitting in third place in the chip counts is Dorel Eldabach (523,000).

John Mooney (523,000) is the only player with a stack north of 500,000. He managed to build up a sizeable stack early on, being on the right side of a three-way all-in in what was the hand of the day.

Some notable names joining the above are Fabian Quoss (492,000), Romain Lewis (428,000) and Ireland's David Lappin (173,000).

PokerStars Ambassadors Rafael Moraes, Alberto Perez and Steve Gallo could not make it through to the next stage. Moraes would bow out to the hands of Stephen Woodhead. The Englishman would end the day with 98,000 chips and will return for Day 2.

More big names to hit the rail in the first stage were Ana Marquez, Dara O'Kearney and Jack Sinclair. Marquez was eliminated by Manuel Fritz while Sinclair was ousted after his aces were cracked by Jonathan Therme.

Set versus Set versus Nut Flush Draw
Set versus Set versus Nut Flush Draw

John Mooney is flying in the €2,200 Eureka High Roller, with one of the largest stacks in the tournament room. He recalled a hand to PokerNews from earlier on in the day which helped him to get to where he is.

Blinds: 100/300/300

A player in early position limped before the player in middle position made it 1,000. There was another caller in late position and Mooney called on the button with the {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. The limper came along as well.

There was some serious action on the {7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop. The early position player checked, the middle position player bet 3,500 and the player to act before Mooney made it 7,000. Mooney, then shipped in his stack with only the limper and late position player calling off their stacks.

Early Position: {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}
Middle Position: {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
John Mooney: {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}

Mooney was behind the two sets but would go onto turn the nut flush as the {q-Diamonds} hit the table and scooped after the {a-Clubs} river.

Elsewhere, WSOP bracelet winner Carl Shaw is having a fruitful Day 1, and shares a similar sized stack to that of his compatriot.

De Melo Calls It

jeffmcmillan • Nivo 16: 2,000-5,000, 5,000 ante

Diogo De Melo was facing an all in shove on the river from Pascal Vos on a board that read {q-Spades}{3-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}.

It was a decision for his tournament left as De Melo thought for a while before he called.

Vos tabled the {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and De Melo showed the {a-Spades}{6-Spades} for the winning hand.

Arends Benefits From Cooler

jeffmcmillan • Nivo 15: 2,000-4,000, 4,000 ante

The board read {4-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{a-Diamonds} on the turn. From the small blind, Jans Arends bet 25,000 into a large pot of about 60,000. Georgiis Vrakas jammed all in from the cutoff and Arends snap-called.

It was a cooler spot as Vrakas had the {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for two-pair but Arends had the better two-pair with the {a-Hearts}{9-Spades}.

The river was the {a-Spades} to improve both to a full house and keep Arends as the winner as Vrakas shook his head at the unavoidable situation.
