On Friday, the European Poker Tour Vienna €10,000 High Roller set a record for the largest high roller of Season 10. Day 1 originally attracted 136 players that accounted for 35 reentries, which brought the field up to 171. Late registration was open until the start of Day 2, and ten players – five first timers and five reentries – took advantage, which brought the total field up to 181 entries, just one more than the EPT10 Barcelona High Roller.

The massive turnout generated a prize pool of €1,773,800 which was to be distributed to the top 27 players. After ten one-hour levels of play, the money was reached and the field whittled down to the final nine. The man best positioned to capture the €392,900 first-place prize is Russian Dmitry Yurasov, who emerged as the chip leader with 1.866 million; however, 2011 EPT London champ Benny Spindler is hot on his heels after being on top of an aces-versus-kings hand late in the evening.

The day began with dozens of eliminations including Khiem Nguyen, Carl Carlsson, Team Online's Marc-Andre Ladouceur, Toby Lewis, Dimitar Danchev, Ronny Kaiser, David Vamplew, Philipp Gruissem, and Mike "Timex" McDonald.

There were just 28 players left in Level 17 (4,000/8,000/1,000), and a lot of them were short stacks clinging to life in the hopes of making it to the money. Odds were one of them would be the bubble boy, but instead it turned out to be a player who could have coasted to the money.

It happened when Viacheslav Goryachev opened for 18,000 and Jens Lakemeier three-bet him to 39,000. Action folded back around to Goryachev and he announced that he was all in for 247,000. Much to the surprise, and no doubt delight, of the rest of the table, Lakemeier snap-called. The players didn't revealed their cards until action had concluded at the other tables, and when they did Goryachev discovered the bad news.

Goryachev: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Lakemeier: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}

The railbirds were several deep all around the table, with many of the high rollers coming to see if they were about to earn at least a €17,750 payday. The {5-Spades}{8-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flop left Goryachev in need of running cards, which meant when the {4-Spades} blanked on the turn the bubble was burst. The meaningless {2-Diamonds} was put out on the river to make it official, and then Goryachev headed to the exit as the bubble boy.

From there the in-the-money eliminations came fast and furious. Among those to hit the rail were Alexander Dovzhenko (27th - €17,750), Sam Trickett (25th - €17,750), EPT10 Prague High Roller champ Ivan Soshnikov (24th - €17,750), Team PokerStars Pro Theo Jorgensen (17th - €23,950), Simon Ravnsbaek (16th - €23,950), and Jonathan Karamlikis (15th - €26,600).

Others who fell before the end of the night were Jonas Kronwitter (14th - €26,600), Jens Lakemeier (13th - €29,250), EPT10 London Main Event champ Robin Ylitalo (12th - €29,250), Alex Bilokur (11th - €33,700), and recent Sunday Million champ Jose Carlos Garcia (10th - €33,700).

The third and final day is set to kick off at Noon local time, and the returning nine players will play down to a winner. Likewise, the final table of the EPT10 Vienna Main Event will be playing down to a winner just across the room. Of course the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on hand to bring you all the action, so be sure to join us then to find out who is crowned champion here at the Hofburg Palace!

Until then, find out what various poker pros think about “hitting and running”:

Jose Carlos Garcia Eliminated in 10th (€33,700)

• Nivo 20: 8,000-16,000, 2,000 ante
Jose Carlos Garcia - 10th
Jose Carlos Garcia - 10th

Jose Carlos Garcia opened for 32,000 and Anatoly Filatov raised it to 80,000 from the button. The blinds folded and Garcia moved all in. Filatov instantly called with his {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and on the second last hand of the night Garcia was racing for his tournament life with {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

The cards ran out {4-Spades}{5-Clubs}{10-Spades}{2-Spades}{7-Diamonds} and Garcia was done.

Earlier this month Garcia won the Sunday Million on March 9th for $230,000. Can’t be all bad.

Alek Bilokur Eliminated in 11th (€33,700)

After being crippled by Fabrice Soulier, it was only a matter of time before Alex Bilokur it in. He swiped the blinds a couple times, and then he three-bet all in from the button for 160,000 after Dmitry Yurasov had opened for 32,000 in the hijack. Action folded back to Yurasov, and he dropped in the call.

Yurasov: {a-Hearts}{6-Spades}
Bilokur: {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

The {3-Spades}{k-Spades}{a-Diamonds} flop paired Bilokur's king, but it also gave Yurasov a pair of aces. When the {3-Diamonds} turn paired the board, Bilokur stood to make his exit, which he made when the {J-Hearts} blanked on the river.

Huge Pot as Spindler Grabs the Lead

• Nivo 20: 8,000-16,000, 2,000 ante

With less than half an hour to play a huge pot has just gone down.

Anatoly Filatov the big stack opened for 32,000 from the button and Vitaly Lunkin raised it up from the small blind to 80,000. The aggressive Benny Spindler with the second biggest stack then made a cold-four bet from the big blind to 220,000 and Filatov responded by moving all in.

Lunkin looked dismayed at what was occurring in front of him and angrily laid down his hand after a few seconds. Spindler instantly called and tabled his {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} to the disbelief of Filatov who had {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}. Lunkin claimed to have folded {q-}{q-}.

The board ran out {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and the aces held to give Spindler a massive stack and push a distraught Filatov back down the field.

EPT10 London Champ Robin Ylitalo Eliminated in 12th Place (€29,250)

Robin Ylitalo - 12th Place
Robin Ylitalo - 12th Place

Back in October, Robin Ylitalo won the PokerStars.com EPT London Main Event for £560,980. He was hoping to capture another EPT title here in Vienna, but those dreams were just crushed by Team PokerStars Pro Jonathan Duhamel.

It happened when Ylitalo opened for 35,000 only to have Duhamel move all in from the small blind. Ylitalo quickly called off for right around 290,000.

Ylitalo: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Duhamel: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Ylitalo was in dire straits, and he seemed to know his time had come when the {7-Spades}{3-Spades}{8-Spades} flop failed to help him. The {2-Spades} turn put four spades on the board, meaning a fifth on the river would result in a chop. Ylitalo paused to see if one would come, but it didn't as instead the {J-Diamonds} peeled off.

Fady Kamar opened for 32,000 from the cut off and it got to Dmitry Yurasov in the small blind. He asked to see Kamar’s stack which wasn’t much more than 250,000 his eyes then flicked to the left to look at the big blind. Yurasov then moved all in. Back to Kamar who looked a bit puzzled and had a glance over at the pay-out screen. He isn’t involved in any great money jump but nevertheless he folded his cards.
